Sweep walks μ from left to right. Each column is finished before the next begins: run the orbit from x = ½, throw away the transient, then histogram where it lands. This is how the diagram is actually computed, and you can watch the attractor split as μ crosses the band-merging points.
Accumulate runs every column at once, a few iterates at a time. Nothing is ever finished — the whole picture sharpens together as the orbits pile up, sparse and grainy at first, settling toward the invariant density. This is what the homepage hero does.
